“Memories of Shabbat – A Garnethill Hebrew Congregation Cookbook is now available in digital format. It has been a labour of love and reflects the diverse and wonderful community we have here at Garnethill.

The book, which was compiled specifically for Shabbat UK 2022 by Amalya Cohen and Shayna Conn, and with generous support from the Chief Rabbi’s Centre for Community Excellence, showcases memories and prose about Shabbat alongside some delicious recipes. Every recipe and story in the book comes from people who have a deep connection with the Garnethill Community and its special history.

If you haven’t yet received your digital copy please email secretary@garnethill.org.uk to request your copy.

Printed copies will be available for sale soon. Watch this space. If you enjoy the cookbook, please consider making a donation to Garnethill Hebrew Congregation to help support the community and projects like this. To make a donation, please visit: https://justgiving.com/garnethill  – Shayna Conn

CHAZAN REPORT

WELL!! … It’s all happening – not only are we just entering June, but it is also the beginning of the Month of Sivan … AND … we start reading from the Book of Bamidbar this Shabbat.

It will be an exciting weekend, as SHAVUOT follows the very next day; Sunday 5th and Monday 6th June, when we will be singing our Yom Tov melodies with energetic ‘surround sound’. The Perspex sheeting surrounding the Bimah has now been removed – maybe, hopefully, we might even have a little CHOIR singing from the bimah for part of the Service: this would be amazing as this has not been possible for over 2 years!!

We finish counting the Omer on Shabbat (June 4th). However, we will be learning from Chap 6 of Pirkei Ovos and from the following Shabbat, we begin again from Chap1 – this process continues until Rosh Hashannah at the end of September.

Remember – immediately after every Service we can look forward to enjoying a BEAUTIFUL Kiddush!! Our thanks as always go to our ‘Kiddush Committee’ and to Josephine for all the hard work they enthusiastically input into our Shul. I look forward to seeing you and HEARING you all on Shabbat and Yom Tov. — Chazan Eddie

ANOTHER FRIDAY NIGHT

Hi everyone! Elaine, Pamela and Yours Truly are planning the next Nosh-up for Friday 8th July at 6.30pm. I think it likely to be a typical Friday night meal, but will have to consult with my team. Again, you will be informed.

We are hoping you will support us, as always, by attending. The price will remain the same at £25. Encourage your friends to come as well. As long as we know numbers, all are welcome. We can have a maximum of 64.

Be sure to book early and don’t miss out. Looking forward to seeing you there.Roberta Wright
